Holiday dialysis in Mallorca

Mallorca is the largest of Spain's Balearic Islands and one of the Mediterranean's most popular holiday destinations, which means it is well set up to welcome travellers who need regular dialysis. Whether you are staying in Palma, on the northern bays around Alcúdia and Pollença, or out east near Porto Cristo, you can keep your treatment schedule and still enjoy the island.

Reni is a free, independent directory. We list the dialysis centres we can find in Mallorca (across operators) and pass your inquiry to a centre only when you choose to send it. We are not a booking platform and we never charge you a fee.

How to arrange dialysis in Mallorca: step by step

Getting your sessions sorted comes down to five steps:

  1. Find a centre. Palma, Inca and Porto Cristo all have centres in our directory below, so pick the one closest to where you're staying.
  2. Send your inquiry. Include your current dialysis schedule, prescription details and travel dates. We forward your message to the centre only with your consent.
  3. Confirm dates, times and what to bring. The centre replies with available slots. Get your sessions confirmed in writing before you do anything else.
  4. Gather your paperwork. Ask your nephrologist or dialysis nurse for everything the centre needs. Leave time; home units can be busy.
  5. Travel. With your slots confirmed and your documents in order, you can enjoy the island with your schedule sorted.

What to expect on the island

Spain runs a high-standard mix of public and private dialysis units. Most visitors on holiday arrange their sessions with a private or visitor-friendly unit; the public system (Servei de Salut de les Illes Balears) primarily serves residents and emergencies.

  • Palma: the capital and the island's main hub, with the most centres and the easiest access from the airport.
  • Inca: inland, in the central plain, a straightforward drive from Palma or the northern resorts.
  • Porto Cristo: on the east coast, convenient if you're staying near the Cales de Mallorca or Manacor area.

A standard routine is usually three sessions a week of around four hours each, but your schedule is between you and the centre. We don't give medical advice; our job is to help you find the centre and make contact.

What to bring

Centres typically ask visiting patients for the same core set of documents. Gathering these before you leave is one of the most important things you can do:

  • A recent letter or summary from your home unit, including your dialysis prescription and current schedule.
  • Recent blood test results: ask your unit what counts as recent enough for a visiting centre.
  • Virology and serology results (hepatitis B, hepatitis C, HIV), routinely required.
  • A full list of your medications, including doses and timing.
  • Your passport, plus EHIC or GHIC if you have one and it's valid.

Requirements vary by centre, so confirm the exact list when you make contact.

Getting around

Palma de Mallorca Airport (PMI) is one of Spain's busiest, with direct flights from across the UK, Germany and the rest of Europe through the summer.

  • Distance: about 8 km east of Palma, with taxis, airport buses and car hire on site.
  • Road network: good island-wide, so a centre a little outside your resort is usually an easy taxi or hire-car trip.
  • Worth asking: when you contact a centre, ask how other visiting patients usually get there and whether there is parking.

Planning & timing

Mallorca's population swells dramatically in summer, and dialysis capacity is finite.

The golden rule: get your sessions confirmed in writing before you book flights or accommodation. Changing flights is expensive and stressful; confirming dialysis first keeps you in control.

If you are travelling between June and September, inquire several weeks ahead and keep a backup centre in mind. Outside the peak there is generally more room, but it is still best to arrange before you arrive rather than on the day.

Confirm before you travel

Availability, what to bring, languages spoken and any costs can all change, and they differ from centre to centre. Always confirm the details directly with the centre before you book flights or treatment. We list centres and check their contact details, but we are not affiliated with them and cannot confirm availability on their behalf.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get dialysis in Mallorca as a visitor?

Yes. Mallorca has dialysis centres that take visiting (holiday) patients. Contact a centre directly using the details below to ask about availability and what to bring. We forward your inquiry only with your consent.

How far ahead should I arrange holiday dialysis in Mallorca?

Mallorca is one of the Mediterranean's busiest summer destinations, so centre capacity tightens from June to September. Inquire several weeks ahead for summer travel; outside peak season there is usually more flexibility.

Does my EHIC or GHIC cover dialysis in Mallorca?

An EHIC/GHIC can cover medically necessary treatment in Spain's public health system, but holiday dialysis is often arranged privately. Coverage and any cost depend on the centre and your situation. Always confirm directly before you travel.

Which towns in Mallorca have dialysis centres?

The centres in our directory are in Palma, Inca and Porto Cristo. They appear below with their contact details; we add new centres as we verify them.
